Skills that are particularly inclined to survival like hunting. How about learning how to make your own archer or bow and arrow? That's right? Bows and arrows aren't available only in sports shops, you can definitely carve your own bow and arrow and live out in the wild just like Robin Hood.

There are many available resources that you can find in the woods when you make your own bow. For example, you can use bamboo - a great and flexible wood you can use as the bow stick or better yet can find yew and ash in the wild. There are more materials that are waiting to be carved in the woods that will service as your bow stick. Whatever works best for you, just make sure that the wood is durable and tough. In this article, we will use yew for demonstration.

First thing's first, you need to have your tools handy like an axe or a sharp knife even a Swiss knife will do. Then find a yew wood that's just perfectly fine and straight. The wood must not have flaws or unnecessary bumps or curves. Then look for a straw or might as well bring with you a string that isn't too stretchible.

The next thing you need to do now is to make an arrow. Then you must fit your bow just right. In order for your arrows to be durable the tips must be hardened through fire. Make sure though that the arrows aren't too slim that they would break if there is close contact.

The next part is to etch or carve 2 notches. These will be placed on the end of each bow. Then tie the string on every end. Make sure that the loop is tight. Remember that loose loops will not produce the much needed force or stretching power.

After this, you can maybe add some accessories such as a nock or handle. A good straw will do as a handle so that it will give your hand a strong grip on the bow. Just make sure that you make the grip comfortable. You would not want your hands get sored right?

So there you have it simple secrets to making your own bow and arrow. It doesn't have to be complex however if you want to add more materials to your bow, you can. Maybe you can use glue or rubber cement to make your stuff more durable, whatever works, as long as you enjoy making your own archery bows.
